The 4th Annual Light up the Holidays Activities are Going Virtual or Drive-In Style

Light up the Holidays

Light Up the Holidays is an annual tree lighting celebration held at Allison Park on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. The celebration will look a little different than in previous years to keep everyone healthy and safe and align with the recent change in state guidelines.

At 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 28, Mrs. Claus will be reading a story to all of the children in our community virtually. Visit Light Up the Holidays page on Facebook to view. Sledding that was originally scheduled for 4 p.m. is being replaced with a tour of lights parade through the streets of Warroad. Decorate your car and tour the lights around town. Make sure to check out the Northborn animals at Allison park and the businesses participating in the Light Up Your Holiday Storefront contest. Watch our Facebook page for more details. At 5:00 pm, the trees at Allison Park will be lit up in a short ceremony. Community members are invited to drive up and listen in via FM transmitter through their car radio. A LIVE feed will be streamed on the Light Up the Holidays page on Facebook for those who wish to remain in the comfort of their own homes. Due to the 10-person maximum permitted at outdoor events, we cannot accommodate any attendees outside of their vehicles.

After the trees have been lit and the carols have been sung, attendees can drive through the Warroad Community Church parking lot to pick up a special treat courtesy of Doug’s Supermarket and wave at Santa! Signs will be posted on the East side of Allison Park and will guide you to the entrance.

And, DON’T FORGET about the Shop ‘til You Drop Giveaway happening now until the Light Up the Holidays event. Community members are encouraged to stop by participating businesses, check out all they have to offer, and enter for their chance to win up to $200 in Chamber Bucks. No purchase is necessary to enter the giveaway. Businesses can also participate in the LIGHT Up Your Holiday Storefront Contest by illuminating their storefronts with lights and holiday decorations. Photos of all the participating business storefronts will be posted to an album on the Light Up the Holidays Facebook page and community members will vote on their favorites with the winner announced at the event. If your business is not already signed up to participate in either subevent and would like more information, please contact warroadcommunitypartners@gmail.com

Light Up the Holidays is a collective effort between Warroad Community Partners, Warroad Area Women of Today, and the Warroad Chamber of Commerce.

Save the Date for the 4th Annual Light Up the Holidays

The 4th annual Light Up the Holidays is set to kick off with a shop local campaign, holiday window display competition and an assortment of socially distant, family-friendly activities.

Starting on November 13, businesses will be hosting the Shop Til’ You Drop Giveaway, an opportunity to be entered into a weekly prize drawing that leads up to the 28th, which is also Small Business Saturday. Shop local for your Christmas presents and with each purchase, you will be entered into the weekly drawing, as well as the big drawing at the tree lighting ceremony, giving you the chance to win up to $100 in chamber bucks.

For the second year, small businesses are being encouraged to participate in a storefront decorating competition with an emphasis on lights.
Voting will take place on the Light Up the Holidays Facebook page starting on Wednesday the 26th. Winner will also be announced at the tree lighting ceremony.

At 3 p.m. on November 28th, Mrs. Claus will be having a story time on the Light Up the Holidays and Warroad Public Library Facebook page. At 4 p.m. Northern Toboggan will have sleds at Allison park for sledding if there is enough snow. We do encourage that you wear a facial covering and follow standard social distancing guidelines. Grab your warm drinks from Lake of the Woods Coffee Company or Caribou Coffee and head over to Allison Park for the tree lighting ceremony that is set to begin at 5 p.m. The ceremony will include an opening prayer, music, lighting of the tree by the 2020 Woman of Impact, a grab and go style treat, and a special appearance from our favorite jolly man in a red suit! You can participate in this event by joining us outside or by listening in on the FM Transmitter from the warmth of your car.

More details will be coming about this fun hybrid event, so follow Light Up the Holidays on Facebook to stay up-to-date.

The Women of Today are currently seeking nominations for the 2020 Woman of Impact. More information is available on the Warroad Women of Today Facebook page and nominations can be emailed to wawt002@gmail.com.

Light Up the Holidays is organized collaboratively by the Warroad Area Women of Today, Warroad Chamber of Commerce, and Warroad Community Partners.
