Whether you’re an adventure seeker or simply looking to soak in the colors of the season, there’s no shortage of exciting things to do around here. From scenic hikes to local festivals to the northernmost corn maze, check out these activities that make fall in Warroad unforgettable for visitors.
- Fish the open waters of Lake of the Woods. Book a charter trip or BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat). Fall fishing is some of the best fishing in the Midwest.
- Explore Beltrami Island State Forest trails by bike, ATV, foot, or even horse. There are campgrounds so you can stay and enjoy the great outdoors day and night. From there, take the trail leading to Hayes Lake State Park. More trails and hiking, a beach, and a picnic area await you for an afternoon lunch.
- Rent kayaks, paddle boats, or canoes from Doc’s Harbor Inn. You’ll cruise up the Warroad River and weave among the cattails and lily pads. If you find yourself along the Warroad River or the shores of Lakes of the Woods, stop for bit to see the different bird species. Warroad is home to many seasonal birds who nest in the marshes of Muskeg Bay.
- Bikes are available to rent from Doug’s Supermarket. Ride through town on the paved bike trails and take in the changing of the leaves. Or challenge yourself to the trails of Beltrami Island State Forest. There’s a multi-purpose trail connecting the bike trails of Warroad to Bemis Hill in the forest. It’s a nice ride and a straight shot to the hill.
- Get lost in the northernmost corn maze, Country Corn Maze. Navigate your way through a field of corn, then enjoy hayrides, climb bale mountains, dive into the covered corn pit, or cozy up by the campfire. Don’t miss the ark filled with animals, a favorite for families and kids of all ages. It’s the perfect spot for a day full of autumn memories.
- When it comes to fall, nothing is better than the ATV Fun Run in September. Ride your ATV through the forest with your friends! Watch as the fall colors begin to show up. There’s a different theme every year. Stop and play games at designated locations to win prizes. Finish it off with a meal and picnic at Carp’s Pit. It’s all sponsored to raise money to go back into trail maintenance in the forest.
- Experience spectacular scenery perfect for a northern Minnesota color tour. If you arrive before the leave reach full color, you may be in luck to see more than 2 million orchids or other wildflowers that bloom along a 75-mile stretch on Highway 11 from the first of May all the way to mid-Sept.
