See the Northern Lights Year Round

Northern Lights Warroad at Allison Park

On Tuesday, October 22, 2019 the “Northern Lights” were officially finished on the Northborn sign at Allison Park. These unique Northern Lights will happen every night for locals and visitors to get a glimpse of the night sky beauty of Northern Minnesota.

Allison Park also includes an outdoor amphitheater, indoor pavilion, a grand gazebo, picnic shelters and a kid-sized splash pad and playground.  The park is located east of the Warroad downtown district along Lake Street NE, the park was previously known as Warroad Community Park.

History of Allison Park

In 2011, The City of Warroad and a Warroad citizen-led volunteer planning committee embarked to create a family-friendly park in the center of Warroad on a land parcel where the first Warroad Hospital and later Senior Living Center stood. The work began with hiring an architect, Widseth Smith Nolting and Associates in Bemidji, Minnesota.  The next step was to seek community input through an online survey and a master plan was designed from that input. The park became known as the Warroad Community Park and was thoughtfully developed in three-phases with completion in the summer 2019.

On July 3, 2019 the park was dedicated and renamed, Allison Park, a tribute to Allison Marvin and her lively, adventuresome spirit; and enjoyment of life that is also reflected in the children that live and play in Warroad today.  We are Northborn.

Past and Present Park Committee Members include:  Brian Schaible, Kathy Lovelace, Rod Kutter, Brad Baumann, Scott Borros, Jeff Parker, Mike Kvarnlov, James Jaros, Glenda Phillipe, Mark Marvin, Marg Marvin, Brenda Baumann.

Architect:  Denise Koenigsberg, AIA, Widseth Smith Nolting & Associates

General Contractor:  Scott Johnson Companies – all three phases

Hampton Inn Groundbreaking Ceremony

Hampton Inn Groundbreaking Ceremony

WARROAD, Minn. – Oct 22, 2019 — What began as an idea in the fall of 2018 in conjunction with the WCD LLC (Warroad Community Development) and the Discovery and Development Hub, local entrepreneurs turned those discussions into action.

Project founders, Drew Parsley of Warroad and Jon Waibel of Baudette, along with project developer, JLJ Management LLC, officially broke ground on a Hampton Inn by Hilton, scheduled to open the Fall of 2020. In attendance were local supporters, including City of Warroad Mayor, Bob Marvin & State Representative, Dan Fabian, among other project officials.

The hotel project is designed to enhance the business community, highlight the city’s geographic location on Lake of the Woods, area natural resources and outdoor recreation, attract new hockey tournaments and work to improve the quality of life in Warroad and ultimately, the growth and sustainability of Warroad and regional economies.

The custom hotel will include an enlarged pool area, kiddie pool including play structures, fitness center, two story pool roof top patio, open ceiling lobby, large breakfast area, lobby bar, hockey room, state of the art audio visual conferencing systems among other unique guest amenities all part of the thoughtful design.

The project is well positioned to attract additional business meetings, sporting events and grow area tourism visits that would normally not stay in the region.

“Thanks to the Warroad Community Development team led by Cyndy Renfrow in partnership with the City of Warroad, the project was made possible,” said Drew Parsley, Project Founder.

The new WHD LLC hotel project represents another flagship project in the execution of the Warroad community vision.
