Lake of the Woods Fishing Report – Weekend of August 3

Aaron Phillipe of True North Guide Service reports: Fishing remains good on the west side of the lake. The best fishing was around the sandbar by Springsteel Island pulling spinners with minnows in 16 to 20 feet. Whiskey Flats produced some good eaters in 25 to 27 feet with a couple of good photo fish to cap off the day. Again, pulling spinners with minnows was best. Fishing in 13 to 18 feet near the south tip of Buffalo Point was best in the evening with spinners and crawlers. Fishing just north of the blinker in 19 to 20 feet was really productive with lots of good eaters, you just have to sort through some smaller fish. Spinners with minnows or crawlers produced about the same results. Best lure colors for all areas were yellow/green, chartreuse/gold and orange. Down rigging is starting to turn on but still seems like live bait is the preferred choice. Good luck and tight lines!
