6th Annual Light Up the Holidays

Light up the holidays warroad

The 6th Annual Light Up the Holidays is set for Saturday,  November 26th!

This year, there will be storefront and residential decorating competitions, a Christmas Cookie Bake-Off, sledding and hayrides at Allison Park, and visits from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, along with the traditional Tree Lighting Ceremony!

For the fourth year, local businesses in downtown Warroad are encouraged to participate in a storefront decorating competition. This year, secret guest judges will be choosing the winners that will be announced at the tree lighting ceremony. There will also be a residential holiday display competition in the weeks following the Light Up the Holidays event. Residents who wish to participate will be asked to have their homes decorated by December 17th to be part of the competition. A Tour of Lights will be scheduled for community members to drive around and view the participating residences, and special guest judges Elliot and Teresa Larson will select this year’s winners who will receive a cash prize! If you or your business are interested in participating in either competition, please visit warroadcommunitypartners.org to sign up!

Mrs. Claus will be making a special guest appearance at Lake of the Woods Coffee Company at 2 pm on Saturday, November 26th. Bring your little ones (and your big ones) for a special holiday storytime to get them in the spirit. Warroad Area Women of Today will be offering a  Christmas Cookie Bake-Off on the afternoon of the event. Area bakers can enter into one of three categories – Most Delicious, Most Beautiful, and Best Heritage – and there is even a special category for children 12 and under! Whip up two dozen of your favorite Christmas Cookies (bakers are welcome to enter in more than one category) and bring them to Lake of the Woods  Coffee Company between 12 and 2 pm on Saturday, November 26th for judging. The winners will be named at the event that evening with a small prize and big bragging rights to be won.  Then all the entries will be served with hot cocoa so the community can enjoy the fruits of your labor! There is no fee to enter, and preregistration is appreciated. Visit warroadcommunitypartners.org to sign up!

At 3 p.m. hayrides with Country Corn Maze will be available and Northern Toboggan will also have sleds at Allison Park for sledding if the snow sticks around! Bundle up and enjoy an afternoon outdoors! The Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. with an opening prayer and lighting of the trees. The winners of the Christmas Cookie Bake-Off and Storefront  Decorating Competition will be announced before Christmas carols are sung. Warm drinks,  sweet treats, and an appearance from our favorite jolly man in the red suit and his elf will end the night!

Light Up the Holidays kicks off the Christmas spirit in Warroad and leads into a festive series of events put on by different businesses and organizations.

Light Up the Holidays is organized collaboratively by Warroad Area Women of Today and Warroad Community Partners.

Late Summer, Early Fall, Scenic Drives

Warroad Fall Color

The crisp fall mornings will be here before we know it and the leaves will soon transition from deep greens to shades of red, yellow, and orange. Now is the time to book a room and make plans for a scenic drive away from the hustle and bustle.

If you arrive before the leave reach full color, you may be in luck to see more than 2 million orchids or other wildflowers that bloom along a 75-mile stretch on Highway 11 from the first of May all the way to mid-Sept. Beltrami State Park & Hayes Lake State Park are a must-see with great walking paths to explore the fall color and make a great pit stop for a picnic lunch. Don’t forget your bikes because Warroad has a great bike trail with fun stops along the way.

AUGUST 18, 2022 UPDATE

The Point

Cleanup of the debris in the parking area has begun and will be completed this week.

Water levels continue to decrease and it is nearing the level required to launch boats.  We had two to three inches of rain early on Tuesday morning (8/16), which slowed progress down a little bit.  However, with the anticipated 5 inch reduction in water levels over the next week we are currently targeting opening at least one of the boat ramps on Thursday 8/25.

Rolling docks were deployed on Monday in preparation for next week, but due to the water levels they are not positioned with as much space as would be desired between docks.   They will be repositioned next week when water levels allow.

AUGUST 8, 2022 UPDATE

Water has receded significantly from the high points.  We expect that The Point will be open at some point the week of 8/22.  Check back here for updates as we will update this status as soon as this access has been reopened.

There is a large parking lot at The Point that is setup well for trucks and trailers. The surface is blacktop and in good condition.

Temporary rolling docks are planned to be deployed early on the week of 8/15.

There is parking is KaKayGeesick Bay for approximately 10 trucks and trailers in the car park with some roadside parking available.

The condition of the parking lot is such that care is needed. The surface is primarily bare ground.

The gravel parking lot is in good condition and there is sufficient parking for 10 trucks and trailers.

There is a $7 charge for launching here.
