Just west of Warroad on Hwy 11, get all your hunting, camping, and sports needs met at Streiff Sporting Goods. While you’re there, get your hunting or fishing license and any up-to-date DNR regulation handbooks, too.

The past week has been rainy and cool, but the holiday weekend forecast looks great! We expect the catching to pick up too!


The best fishing
Areas around Lighthouse Gap and outside of Pine Island in 17’-24’ has been the best spots to get into some good walleye fishing. The river has been hit or miss. Few feet shallower is best in the mornings and evenings.  Water temperature is currently hovering around 51-53 degrees. Hammered gold spinners with 1-2 oz. jigs and 3/8 oz. gold or bright orange jigs tipped with a minnow are working best.

Anglers found lots of nice walleyes for the pan and to release.  The best bite was found in bays or outside Pine Island in 14’-19’ of water. We expect the upcoming week to be a lot of the same. Water temperature is 53 degrees.  Gold 3/8 oz. or chartreuse jigs or a hammered gold spinner and 1 oz. sinker tipped with a chub or shiner minnow has been working well.

The Phoenix offers homemade pizza, burgers, homemade fries and dinners and a variety of chicken wings flavors as well as deep fried items. After 9 pm they offer deep fried items and pizza only. Also in the Phoenix is an air hockey table, juke box, ATM, wireless internet and TV’s throughout.
