Springsteel Resort Fishing Report

The road from Springsteel Resort is plowed to whiskey flats. It goes by DNR reef crosses a bridge and heads out to South Buffalo point and Whiskey flats.

Fishing has been hit and miss the last couple weeks with the frigid cold temps we have had. The best fishing reports have come in deeper water as of lately so try and get in that 27-29ft of water. Colors can vary from day to day but the standard is gold and glows. We are in for another blast of cold weather this week so will find out if the fish decide to bite. As always stay warm and stay safe will out on the lake.

The Warroad Chamber & Springsteel Resort Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Springsteel Resort.  Over $30,000 in cash & prizes will be awarded.  Derby tickets are $20 each and available online or at local Warroad retailers. Contact us for more details.

January 9, 2019 | Arnesen’s Lake of the Woods Ice Fishing Report

Arnesen's Lake of the Woods Ice Fishing Report

Here’s your latest report from Rocky Point guide, Jase Lamberson.

Fishing has been good around Rocky Point. Mornings have been a bit slower, but the bite picks up mid day until around 4:30pm. We are fishing anywhere from 28-32 ft. of water. A plain red hook with a split shot on a dead stick has been working well. A red or white buckshot on the jigging rod has also been attracting fish. Electronics are key. Some houses are catching fish that are suspended — set dead stick rods 6 to 8 inches off the bottom. Good luck!

Fishing on the west side of the lake remains good. Five Mile Reef is still producing limits of fish in 25 to 26 ft of water with pink and chartreuse being the go-to colors tipped with live minnows.

Elm Point has been good in the morning with nice limits of fish being caught by noon. 18-19′ of water. Gold jigs tipped with frozen shiners were best.

Whiskey Flats has been on fire with multiple reports of nice fish being caught in 28′ of water using live minnows.

The bite is hot on 5 mile reef. 22-24′ of water producing excellent quality Walleye, Saugar and monster Pike on tip-ups! Chartreuse and pink jigs have been the best tipped with a live minnow. After dark the eelpout bite is phenomenal! The road is plowed all the way with about 14″ of good ice.

Fishing around Warroad has been good in the morning and evening in 24’-25′ on Whiskey Flats using a jig and shiner, with plenty of nice eaters and several slot fish. 15′ off of the rocks at Springsteel in the morning using a jig and shiner has also been producing quality eater walleyes. Fishing around the blinker in the morning and evening has been decent, but is starting to slow down a little bit. Between Long Point and Twin Islands in 26′ has been great with jigs and shiners.

True North Guide Service

Fishing the Rainy River 12’-14′ has been very productive along the weeds all day from the windsock by Sportsman’s to the Wabanica church. The water is very dirty from all the wind and run off making fishing tougher on the east side. The dam in I-Falls was opened last week, making for a strong current in the river. Fishing shallow water produced the best fishing. Sturgeon fishing is also on fire with several a day being caught in deep holes in the river.

Springsteel Resort fishing report

Springsteel Resort Fishing Report.

We had been downrigging last week and having good luck in areas around 16 mile reef and south of 12 mile reef. This week we have been catching nice walleye bait fishing closer to the resort. Most of our fish have been coming from the Willow creek area of the south shore in 20-23ft pulling gold spinners with worms. There is also fish coming off of Whiskey Flats in 23-26ft and South Buffalo point in 18-20ft with spinners. There hasn’t been as many fish over there but nice size fish. So if you plan on making a trip up and whether you want to pull plugs or spinners you should have a good weekend of fishing. Good luck and be safe.

Ice Road & Fishing Report | March 8, 2018

Springsteel Resort Ice Report
We missed out on all the snow from Monday but we did get the wind. There was some drifting but we were able to plow the road open again on Tuesday. The road is still open to whiskey flats with no bridges to cross. As of today, there hasn’t been any ice shifting but that could change with warmer temps in the forecast.

Fishermen going after pike haven’t had any issues getting off the road and driving up to Elm Pt or the bay and lakeshore south of the resort.

Springsteel Resort Fishing Report
Fishing has been decent. The walleye aren’t really active but they are catching, just not as consistent as we would like. We did have a group keep 15 yesterday and tossed back many smaller fish so hopefully that a sign of things going in the right direction.

Depths have really varied depending on the times of the day. Most people are still in that 25 to 29ft. Pike fishing is still a little sporadic too. People are getting them shallow and deeper but just not in numbers yet. The warmer temps coming should start luring them in soon.

Good luck fishing this weekend and be safe on the lake!!

Valentine’s Day Ice Fishing Report

Springsteel Resort Ice & Fishing Report:

“The road continues to be plowed out to south buffalo point and whiskey flats. With 30 plus inches of ice mostly everywhere there has been no issues with traffic on the lake.

Fishing remains pretty steady. The best fishing has been in 26 to 28ft of water with mostly walleye being caught with a few sauger and perch mixed in.

The bite has been light this last week so don’t be afraid to use a little smaller tackle and don’t forget your electronics. Gold, pink and red have been the best colors this week with chubs or shiners.

It’s not too late to pick up tickets for the annual Warroad Area Chamber of Commerce & Springsteel Fishing Derby.  Over $30,000 in prizes will be given away.

Good luck fishing this weekend and have fun!”

Springsteel Resort Ice and Fishing Report.

“The road was plowed Thursday after the wind earlier in the week. The road is 6 miles long and ends between South Buffalo Point and Whiskey flats. There are a couple cracks running around with the extra weight of the snow but doesn’t seem to be causing any issues as of now.

On the fishing side of things, it’s been pretty steady. Most houses are spread out between Buffalo and Whiskey Flats. A lot of them are in the 24 to 27 ft.”  We are getting a mix of fish but mostly walleye. There are a few perch and sauger mixed in with gold and glows being the go-to colors.”

“Right now we have a plowed road to the south point of Buffalo with ice conditions ranging from 16 inches to 24 inches. The walleye have really started to bite at South Buffalo with guys getting limits of walleye and a few sauger and perch mixed in.

Most people are fishing in 20 to 24 feet with chubs and shiners with gold and glows being the go to colors.

We hope that the good fishing keeps up with warms temps in the forecast. Good luck fishing and stay safe on the lake.”
