Ice Report

Springsteel Resort checked the ice yesterday evening but ran out of daylight so they will be checking again today. “The bays are in pretty good shape with 10-12 inches. There has been some fishing for pike in the bay of south of the access with some nice pike coming out.

There has been a few people making there way to Elm Pt. Bay with more pike being speared there. We do have a crack in the usual spot. It’s about 1/4 mile off shore running from the Warroad River area towards Elm Pt. Towards the sandbar/DNR reef area we did find 4 to 6 inches of ice which isn’t as much as hoped but it was open in that direction as recent as last Wednesday.

We are going to check more today to get a better feel for the area. If you plan to fish this weekend be very careful and check ice frequently. As for now we only recommend fishermen to stay in the bays…”  Safety first.

We will keep everyone posted the best we can on ice conditions.  Enjoy your weekend.

“It’s Starting to Look Like Winter”

It has been a cool week and it doesn’t look like that is going to change. We have a few inches of snow on the ground and some ice starting to form on the small bays too. Will it be an early ice season this year? Could be!  Bring on the freezing season!

One Last Splash
If you are looking to make it out in the boat one more time, the fish are biting! The best bite has been outside of Pine Island and Graceton Beach in a wide range of depths 6’-28’ as well as points in the River near Wheeler’s Point, 4 Mile Bay, Baudette Airport area and Clementson. Deep holes and creek beds are good places to fish using a jig and a shiner minnow. Anchor up and start jigging. Gold, orange and glow in the dark colors have all been good lately.

Lake of the Woods Fishing Report

walleye

The walleye have moved back in shallow and the shorelines have really been good the last couple weeks. From the blinker at Warroad to Springsteel island and up to Elm Pt has been the best.

Most people have been drifting spinners with minnows and crawlers. The sandbar has also produced some limits the last couple days jigging too. With decent weather in the forecast, the fishing should continue to worth a trip to the lake. Good luck fishing!!

Fishing Report

These last couple weeks of July has brought us nice weather and good fishing. The best fishing reports have been coming from reefs: 12 and 16 mile reef specifically. Both bait fishing on and downrigging around or near these reefs have produced both walleye and sauger.

If you prefer not to go that far there have been some fish caught at spots like DNR reef and Whiskey Flats. The upcoming weather looks great so get on the water, have fun and good luck fishing!!!

Fishing Report

Lake of the Woods Fishing Report – June 29

Fishing has gone as the weather has gone these last couple weeks….back and forth.

The best reports have been drifting or trolling the shallows with worms and minnows. Jigging out deeper has worked but has been less consistent. Also, the fish/mayfly hatch just started yesterday and we all know what that does to the fish bite for a few days.

The weather forecast looks great for the 4th of July week. If you plan on fishing I would be prepared to try everything. We will even see boats start downrigging now with the flies around.

Have a great 4th of July weekend. Have fun, be safe and catch some fish.

Lake of the Woods Fishing Report

“This has been a week of shoreline fishing. The warm temps have brought the walleye in shallow. Throughout the week there has been fish caught from willow creek/swift ditch areas all the way around to Elm Pt. We have seen fish caught as shallow as 4 ft. Crawlers are typically the best bait in shallow. There are fish still coming off South Buffalo Pt and Whiskey flats both jigging and drifting. We hope the recent weather doesn’t turn the fishing off for the weekend. Good luck fishing.”

June Fishing Report

Springsteel Resort Fishing Report l Lake of the Woods

Despite the poor weather we’ve had the month of May fishing has been pretty good. The best reports having been coming from South Buffalo Point and Elm Pt. Most walleye have been caught in that 8 to 14 feet with sauger out deeper in 18 to 20 feet. Whiskey flats has also produced fish day to day. The most recent reports have come from Springsteel’s shore line to the blinker by Warroad. The wind this week has kept the fishermen close but they are still catching. Now that June is here and warmer weather the walleye bit should really turn on all along the shorelines. Good luck fishing this weekend!

May Fishing Report

Fishing Report from Arnesen's

Lake of the Woods fishing report courtesy of Captain Tim “Wingnut” Hill of Arnesen’s Rocky Point Resort.

“Fishing right now is one of the best starts to a season I’ve ever had — bring extra bait because you’ll stay busy! Jigging with shiners or chubs is key. The fish are stacked tight to the bottom, so slow and low works well. Almost lay jig on the bottom and within a few minutes you’re hooked up. Reefs and Points are all catching fish. Use sonar to see what depth they’re at and stay vertical. 23′ and even 32′ have been where I’ve done best, just find structure and the fish are there.

The Clark group of six all had fish over slots and two more days catching 100+ fish. The Larson group also did well on the charter boat and landed about 100 fish per day. Their biggest were 31.5″, 28″ and 27.5″, plus bonus perch. The Dominise group had over 100 fish caught. Their biggest was a 31″ walleye, 42″ pike and lots of perch.”

SAFE TO SAY THE PIKE BITE IS ON!

Lake of the Woods Ice Fishing Report

Springsteel Resort, Inc reports “the ice road is in good shape & plowed to Whiskey Flats. Most of the water & slush on the road has hardened up the last couple days.
Fishing had been good lately but did slow up some with the colder temps. Best reports are coming from South Buffalo & Whiskey Flats. Best depths are 21-25ft & 26-29ft.
We are seeing more pike fishermen coming out now. It’s been better out deeper by structure than in the shallows so far.”
